Democrats propose a plan and McCain says what?

Sequestration is looming over Washington with the possibility of automatic cuts to the Pentagon.  Senate Democrats offer a plan to avoid the possibility.   Also, in a new development, McCain says he is satisfied with WH response to Benghazi and is willing end the filibuster and vote on Hagel nomination.

We are talking about party politics so any comments clarifying concepts in Chapter 8 are encouraged!!

Here are two political cartoons that deal with the Hagel nomination:

The first cartoon illustrates the hypocrisy of the Democrats who support the nomination and the second illustrates the hypocrisy on the other side of the aisle.

Also here is an interesting but unrelated article proposing that government benefits are fueling US poverty.  What do you think?  Is this economist right in his analysis?

I disagree with economist Vedder's opinion that government benefits fuel poverty because, although he highlights how people's dependence on government assistance has increased, he neglects to acknowledge how federal aid has kept many out of poverty as well. Without endorsement from programs such as SNAP, Unemployment benefits and Social Security, there would be millions of more Americans living under the poverty line at this moment. And right now, this is not what our nation needs. In my opinion, we need to solve our poverty crisis by fixing the economy. I due believe that Obama is trying with the Pell Grant Program by educating our citizens so that would have the opportunity to excel, and thus rising above the poverty line. Additionally, I agree with economist Heidi Shierholz statement that there are not enough jobs out there because there is a lot more unemployed citizens than there are Americans. But it is hard to execute decisions when there are people on the left and people on the right who will not budge because of there very strong liberal and conservative beliefs. It is time for our elected officials in office to learn to cooperate so that we can actually quell the crisis at hand.
