Will he or won't he? Turns out, he won't.
Mitt Romney has officially stated that he will not be running for President in 2016 after speculation that he would be considering another attempt at securing the Republican presidential nomination. Do you think this is a good move for Romney? If he believes he could have won the nomination, why wouldn't he give it another go? Who are the other Republican leaders that might step up to run in 2016? If you were a Republican, who would you want to run and why? Do you think this will make the road to the Presidency more or less difficult for the likely democratic nominee Hillary Clinton? In all of your responses, be sure to outline the reasoning behind your answers. Have a good weekend!

1.) I think it is a good move for Romney because by publicizing that he is not running again, he is giving someone else in his party the chance to win. He has already run twice and not proven to be victorious, so I think the chances of a different Republican candidate winning are higher than the chances of him winning.
2.) If he truly believed he could win the Presidency, he would be running again. I think he knows that he would probably lose for a third time, so he chose not to run. Even without the presidency, he can still participate in politics.
3.) Other Republican leaders that can participate in the 2016 run are Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.
4.) If I was a Republican I would run because the House and Senate are already Republican-ruled, so there would be more cooperation and progress than there is now with it divided between the two parties.
5.) I think Hilary Clinton will still get the democratic votes, but if we have another democratic president, then less progress will be made because the republicans will veto the democrat and vice versa. The road to Presidency for Clinton will probably be more difficult for that reason.
1. It's probably a good move for Romney to finally say that he isn't going to run, simply because I'm sure people are tired of seeing him trying to win and they might go with a fresher, newer face. And even if he ran, I'm sure even less Americans would vote for him since he's tried so many times and never had a policy or platform that appealed to large amounts of people, judging from his losses.
2. Maybe Romney was playing the courtesy card in not running, and didn't run specifically to allow other political figures to rise into power and give Republicans a fresh face. He may have been keeping other people's interests in mind and let other Republicans take the stand who haven't had the chance to run yet, given that he's already tried before.
3. Other Republicans include Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, and Mike Huckabee (according to the NY Times).
4. I would chose Jeb Bush, since his family has been involved in the presidency as well so he should know the ropes, or at least have a good idea of what to do. His policies as Florida governor were really catered to the people, ranging from restoring the Everglades to reforming education. He would probably use similar tactics if he was president and thus appeal to the masses.
5. It might honestly make it easier for Hilary Clinton to run, as there's less of a split between who is actually running. Now that there's one less person to worry about in the race, Clinton is free to receive more media attention and build an early start in campaigning. She could be using early awareness as an advantage.
1. I think this is a good choice for Romney. This gives an opportunity for other Republicans since he lost the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and lost the presidential nomination in 2012. If he ran again and lost again, it would hurt him politically, so it is in his best interest to let others run.
2. His chance of winning the whole presidential election is slimmer since he has run two times before. By sitting out this time, he can maintain his political reputation as just being governor.
3. According to the Washington Post, this gives Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Scott Walker a chance.
4. I would want Jeb Bush to run since he has previous success by being the first 2 term Florida Republican Governor. This shows that he is popular, and he has success in his policy goals such as environmental changes, education reform, and the Florida high speed rail initiative.
5. I think this gives Hillary Clinton a slight advantage, since by having a strong Republican out of the race; she has a head start in her own campaign. Some pressure is put off her back with Mitt Romney out of the race.
1. I have mixed feelings about Romney's decision not to run for president, personal and practical. Personally, I think it is an excellent idea for Romney not to run. I don't like him as a candidate. He is a hypocritical flip-flopper who cares only for those who are as rich as him and can finance his campaign and presidency. Practically, however, it may have been a good idea for his career. Romney is already a household name because of his near-election, and has had time to think about what he could have done better as a candidate. However, at the same time, Americans may see him as second-place, a failure, and may not believe in him as much anymore.
2. Even if Romney believes he could win the presidential nomination, as outlined in his documentary "Mitt," presidential campaigns are taxing and exhausting. Romney's entire family is under scrutiny and in the limelight, and with his wife's MS condition and his own personal concerns, Romney and his family likely do not want their entire lives under the eye of the world at large for a third time.
3. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz will likely run for president (though Ted Cruz is a Canadian, but that's another matter altogether). Jeb Bush will almost definitely run. Bobby Jindal and Rick Perry probably will, but neither will win because the former is boring and the latter is too eccentric, to speak delicately. Chris Christie may still run, though he has become a joke to the United States because of his George Washington Bridge scandal, amongst other things. Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon, will run. Scott Walker and Rick Snyder, both governors, may run as well. Mike Huckabee will, and will lose.
4. If I were a Republican, I would likely want Jeb Bush to run. With an Hispanic wife he will appeal to minority voters. His record as Florida governor will make him appealing to conservative voters. His family's history could also help sway voters should he argue that his history makes him the most experienced candidate.
5. Hillary Clinton, as a more conservative Democrat, will likely be seen as an excellent presidential candidate across party lines. With a stellar track record as Secretary of State and her incredible political experience, Clinton will come across as the best possible candidate and the most experienced, and with her high popularity, Clinton will be nominated and elected president. (And she's got my vote.)
1. Yes, I believe it is indeed a good move for Mitt Romney to not run. He already lost two times, and if he were to lose the next election, his public image will be severely hurt. Furthermore, quoting the article, “He said on the call that he was convinced he could win the nomination again but that stepping aside would be best for the Republican Party and the nation.” By leaving the race, he would allow other candidates that have fresh faces that may have new appeal to the voters, who may be tired of Romney.
2. He believes he could’ve won the nomination, but I think he was dissuaded from running by the donors as well as his previous elections. Romney does have the time and resources to run, yet the donors that supported his campaigns in his previous elections may believe that supporting Romney may be fruitless again. Losing the financial support that he had before (Kind of following elitist theory) would certainly make Romney hesitant. In addition, even if he wins the nomination, there’s no indication whether he would be able to win over enough voters for the presidential election, evident in last two elections.
3. There is a long list of potential candidates, but few of the Republican leaders that may step up to run are Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, and Rand Paul.
4. Based on my limited knowledge, I want Jeb Bush because of his experience in the politics field as the governor as well his family background, which would be a good source of experience as well.
5. Clinton is a candidate with an excellent record and experiences. With Romney gone, I think Hillary Clinton will have a smoother road to presidency because the Republicans are divided amongst numerous candidates.
1) In my opinion it is a good move because if he has doubts he should not do it. He has already run before and did not win.
2) If he believed he could have won he might have not ran because he could be supporting someone else running that has a better chance. Also, since he was not successful before he might have realized it was not what he wanted to do.
3) Other republican leaders include Jeb Bush and Rand Paul.
4) I would want Jeb Bush to run because it would make him the third Bush in the white house and in my opinion, they were successful republican presidents.
5) The road to presidency for Hillary Clinton would be less difficult because there are many republicans running and fewer democrats. Therefore, the republican votes would be split among the republican candidates and a likelier chance for Hillary to get the most votes.
1. I believe that this was a good move for Mitt Romney simply because he has run for President of the United States in the 2008 and 2012 elections and lost both. Support from major financial backers and conservative voters may have began to wane as they are looking for different candidates whom may be new to the presidential arena.
2. Mitt Romney may have decided to cease his campaign for president in order to return to his position in the private sector as an investor and consultant. Additionally, Romney probably sees the promise and ambition in the new rising generation of GOP leaders who should, too, get an opportunity to become the President, as he has twice already gotten that opportunity.
3. Possible Republican leaders that are exploring running in the 2016 election include Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio.
4. If I was a Republican, Jeb Bush would be my choice because of his vast political experience, serving two terms as the Governor of Florida and the Secretary of Commerce of Florida. As a member of one of America’s so-called political dynasties, Bush will likely have the backing of supporters of his father and grandfather.
5. The road to the Presidency will likely be slightly less difficult for Clinton. A major front-runner on the Republican ticket (Romney) recently pulled out of the race, creating more uncertainty on the red side in terms of who their selected candidate may be. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party has a more clear direction in terms of their nominee. This ultimately means that Clinton may get a head start in her campaign and donor efforts.
I was watching a newscast Friday afternoon where Romney basically said that is another republican has a better chance of becoming the president, he does not want to stand in the way of that. Therefore, he will not be running. I think this is a good move. He has run twice before without winning. I think it is good for him as he is concerned with our country having a republican president and it may be more likely for someone else. Although he may have won the nomination, he probably did not want to lose to a democrat in becoming president and would rather someone else have the nomination who could actually secure the presidency. Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, and many others will run in 2016. I think Jeb Bush has a good chance and should run as he has had family before him become president. He has been raised in politics and will have more of an idea of what to do as he has watched his family members. The Bush family has been successful and he would be a good candidate. I think Hilary Clinton will have a good chance as she is a female and many will want to see that first female president. She also has the advantage of a strong nominee dropping out. However, these past years with Obama as president have been the least productive years in law making ever. This is due to the fact that the republicans hold the houses and he is a democrat. Having a republican president would lead to a lot more progress.
1. I think that it's a good move for Romney not to run again. By doing this he is giving other people in the Republican party a chance to run.
2. If Romney thought he could have run the nomination, the reason he wouldn't try again is because of the public scrutiny, he's put his family under the same pressure twice before, and to do it again, he might not end up wining, he would be hurting his family,
3.The Republican leaders that might run are Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.
4. If I was a Republican I would vote for Jeb Bush because of his experience and successfulness in the political world, such as serving 4 year term as Governor of Florida.
5. I think the road to Presidency for Hillary Clinton will be not too easy or not too hard, because of her history in the political word, with her husband being the former President, but it will be difficult for another democrat to get in the seat because of the majority of the republicans that are in house right now.
1. I think this is a smart move for Romney because much of his past campaign donators are seeking to donate their money to different Republican candidates. If he were to back-up one of the other Republican candidates, then their party may have a greater chance of winning the race. Hillary Clinton is, supposedly, a very strong, well-funded Democratic candidate and Romney backing one of the other Republican candidates should make the Republican Party stronger.
2. Mitt Romney has already run twice, losing both times. To a businessman, it would not be a good idea to give it another go.
3.Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson are all expected to run.
4. If I were a Republican, I would want Ben Carson to run because I like that he actually has an average family background and has not paid his way through to being a possible candidate. I like that he was once a neurosurgeon and admire that he did not choose a political party until he considered running for Presidency. It’s cool that he believes his party should be called the, “Logic Party”, basing decisions off of common sense.
5. I think Romney’s decision will make the road to Presidency more difficult for Hillary Clinton because Republicans will not have the choice between Bush and Romney; so, most of the Republican voters who would have voted for Romney will now vote for Bush, putting all of their eggs in one basket, figuratively speaking.
1) I think it would be better for Romney not to run because of how unsuccessful he has been with his campaigns.
2) Based off of the article, it did say he was convinced that he could win. I personally believe that even if he had a chance of winning, there's also a bigger chance of losing. I'd say he's too scared to take the risk of running again vs losing-the third time.
3)The other republican leaders that might step up to run in 2016 are: former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
4) I would want Jeb Bush to run because of how successful he's been in the past couple years. He has great experience from his family and shows great leadership traits.
5) I think it would be less difficult for the democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton because of Mitt Romney not running. Clinton will have a bigger chance of winning since that's the case.
1. I think its a good move for Romney because by publicizing that he is not running again, he gives other Republicans a chance to run. Also he has already tried so many times on running and has not succeeded. So its better to have newer faces rather than the same old people that are struggling from winning.
2. I feel like if he really thought he was going to win then he would still be running. So by doing this he probably wants now to just give other people from his party a chance instead of risking his loss once more.
3. Other Republicans include Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, and Mike Huckabee
4. If i was a Republican i would choose Jeb Bush, since his family has already been in the presidency, because of his vast political experience and serving two terms as the Governor of Florida and the Secretary of Commerce of Florida. so he probably knows what hes doing.
5. Clinton is a candidate with an excellent record and experiences like With a stellar track record as Secretary of State and her political experience, Clinton will come across as the best possible candidate and the most experienced, and with her high popularity, and With Romney gone, I think Hillary Clinton will have a better chance to presidency because the Republicans are divided among numerous candidates.
1. I think this is an absolutely good move for Romney. I think he didn't try to run for President because he's giving another Republican candidate a chance.
2. I believe that because Romney lost to Obama before, many of the voters will remember this and therefore not many will vote for him. Plus I think Mitt Romney was trying too hard to win, and that is whats probably going to be his downfall.
3. Other Republicans that may step up will probably be Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Scott Walker.
4. If I was a Republican I would probably vote for Ben Carson because we're both the same religion and it would be pretty cool if he won. But I also think I would vote for Jeb Bush since he knows what he's doing in politics and he will continue the Bush's legacy.
5. I honestly think it will make the road for presidency will be slightly easy for Hillary Clinton since she is a female, and a lot of people would like to see this happen. Plus the youth who doesn't understand politics would vote for her too because shes a female. I think it would be hard for her as well since there could be a better Republican Candidate who may appeal more to the citizens.
1) I think it's a good move for Romney to not run again, because he's been unsuccessful twice before. It's time for the Republican party to be represented by a new face.
2) He may have realized, that the third time would not be the charm in his case. I'm sure if he was 100% positive he would be successful this attempt he would be running again.
3) Other possible Republican leaders include Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.
4) My knowledge on politics is very limited, and if I were politically aware, I'm sure I wouldn't be a Republican. So I can't answer this question.
5) I think Hillary Clinton has great chances, she's very well experienced, and well known in politics. I think she has a slight advantage in media/campaign time.
Romney announcing he will not run in the election of 2016 is a good thing because he has already had the chance to run and he can obviously tell he is not a popular candidate of the American people. By Romney not running this allows for another Republican candidate to step up to the plate.
I think Romney is tired of the whole election process considered he’s been through it twice now. This process is probably exhausting towards his family as well, so I think even if Romney thinks he could of won the election he would of still sat out because of the tiring process.
Other Republicans that could participate in the election include Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee, Scott Walker and Jeb Bush.
I would chose Jeb Bush simply because it would be considered his “legacy” because his family has already been through the election process and has been in office, so he would come to the table with the same values and ideas as his previous family members.
I think Hilary Clinton will still have a difficult time running not only because of the other candidates but because of the fact she is a woman running for President. A lot of feminist will be for it but the majority of Americans I think feel like a woman is not strong enough to run the country.
1) I do believe that it was a good idea for Mitt Romney not to run because his first two attempts proved to be unsuccessful. Even though the old adage goes, “Third time’s a charm”, I don’t believe that even the third time would prove successful for Romney. There are just too many strong competitors this time around for Romney to even prevail and get the Republican vote.
2) If he honestly believed that he could win and still decided not to go through with running, I believe it’s because he, as well as other Republican politicians, know that his ideas are a bit antiquated and need some freshening up with some new blood.
3) Some other Republican leaders that might step up are Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham.
4) If I were a Republican, I’d want Jeb Bush to run based solely on the fact that he’s had a father and brother in office and could have some knowledge and insight on what the presidency is like, how to handle to duties and responsibilities, etc. His background as being part of a presidential family coupled with the fact that he’s a former Florida Governor, would make me more inclined to want him to run, based solely on those facts.
5) I think that the road to Presidency will be hard for Hillary Clinton, even though there is a strong indication that she will receive the Democratic vote. It shouldn’t be a repeat of the 2008 election where honestly, a lot of people voted for President Obama because he was black, and having a black man in office would be huge and monumental. If Hillary were to win the Presidency, I don’t want to say or assume that it’s because she’s a woman, and “Hey, a woman in office would be cool!”. It should be based solely on her credentials, experience, and the foreknowledge that she could bring to the table. Even if she were to assume the Presidency, with the Republicans dominating politics right now and the high levels of tension and conflict between parties, I don’t believe much will get done.
1) I think its a great idea that he is not running because he has failed numerous times in the past and doesnt want to go down in history as a "failure" or anything of that matter.
2) I dont believe he would win at all cause America has seen what a Democratic president has done for us, they have seen all the things like obamacare gas prices diminishing. Romney would have never done what Obama is doing.
3) Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio are some Republicans to keep an eye on
4) I have no idea who I would go for because I still dont know what they have to bring to the table yett
5)Hilary Clinton would be a great canidate because she has the same political views as Obama, and honestly might pick up from where Obama left off. Plus she is a female alot of people would like to see a female being the President of the United States, this would be great for alot of female feminist groups.
I do believe that the announcement that Romney would not run for President was a good move for both Mitt Romney and the Republican party. This will allow other candidates to utilize campaign funding and contributions, instead of it being divided among several potential people. Being that this would be his third time running for President I think it might be safe to assume that he shouldn't run again. The other large Republicans running are Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. If I were a Republican I would want Marco Rubio to run because he could help get votes among the younger generation and Hispanics. I don't think I would want Jeb Bush running because he would get less votes, due to the "soiling" of his families name in the last couple decades. I think having Marco Rubio running against potential candidate Hillary Clinton would make the road to the Presidency most difficult because she would become the first Woman President, and he would become the first Hispanic President, if each won.
1.I feel that it is good he is open with the public and that he does not lead americans on and cause for unnecessary bebate.
2.I believe he wants to be president so if he felt like he could do this he would run however he does not feel this way so he will not run.
3.Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie
4.I would want Jeb Bush because he has been governor so he knows a good amount of politics as well as family background.
5.I believe because she is already known by the people, she will have a easier chance of gaining popularity which translates into more votes.
1. I believe it is a good move for Romney to announce that he is stepping aside, partly because he has failed to win twice (this probably won't change a third time).
2. If he believed he could win this nomination and decided not to run thinking he could, I would say because of his two prior unsuccessful attempts.
3. Some Republicans that might run for 2016 include Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, and Scott walker
4. If I were a Republican I would vote for Jeb Bush. I say this because he belongs in a little family tree where previous family members have been in office. If he were wise he'd talk about correcting and honing the mistakes that his prior family members and just presidents in general have made and that would be enough to convince me. Even further, his experience as Florida governor gives him a bigger advantage in my eyes, where his policies were advantageous to the people and the environment. His policies included restoration of the Everglades and reformation of education. Using this experience as governor gives him a strong chance if he were to run in 2016.
5. With Romney announcing his vacancy in the 2016 election, this surely gives Clinton some room to build and improve on her former unsuccessful policies. With one less powerful opponent, hopefully she can take advantage of it and get a head start on her upcoming presidential campaign.
1. This is a good move for Romney because now that everyone knows of his decision, other Republicans may have the opportunity to be an even better candidate. His past has shown that he is not very lucky when running for presidential elections and there is a higher chance of a Republican winning if others are given the opportunity since he used his up.
2. If he was certain he would win, then of course he would run for president. His campaign team has probably looked at the statistics, how many financial supporters he has, and then decided the likelihood of his success which was too low.
3. Other Republicans running are Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie, and Mike Huckabee for 2016.
4. I would choose Jeb Bush mainly because politics and presidency are second nature to him. He knows what makes a good leader or how to put up a front. Florida’s politics can be very diverse as he knows from being Governor how to deal with foreign relations as well.
5. I believe it will make it easier as her more experienced opponent is now out of the running. Mike Huckabee has a fair chance, but many consider him to be very right winged with a less open attitude to policy change. Clinton, however, has not had a very good campaign trail since she had two tours in Canada.
1. I believe that Mitt Romney made a good move in not running again because he has already run twice and failed to win and gave up a lot of time, money, and energy each time.
2. Although he believes he could probably have won the nomination, it would have been very difficult, so he prefers to let another Republican nominee step up, someone probably better able to win against the Democratic nominee.
3. These other potential Republican nominees include Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul.
4. If I were a Republican, I would probably vote for Rand Paul, because although I don’t share the same stance as his on social issues, I appreciate his desire to balance the budget and have a smaller, less-involved military.
5. I think if the new Republican nominee does a good job, it will be harder for Clinton to win the presidency, since people already know everything about Romney and still didn’t prefer him, so someone and new with a fresh look on issues may rally enough votes to overtake her.
I think that Mitt Romney has been marked and not running again due to the fact that he has failed twice would be wasting people's time. He believes he can run successfully and possibly win however I think he also believes that he is lacking magicians smoke and wow factor that Americans look for to run against a democratic nominee running for president in 2016. Other Republicans Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, and quite possibly Ted Cruz. If I wear a Republican I would like to see a female quite possibly take office of the president. Not because it's 2015 and we're making changes to history domestically and internationally, it's because I'm particularly interested in seeing the work and wondering of a female president or even a female Vice President. I think it will make the rolls for a Democratic nominee like Hillary Clinton harder due to the fact that both the Senate and the House of Representatives control most of government. This I think would make Hillary Clinton less susceptible to the role of President due to the fact that she has insight on how the president office is done without all the negative aspects of her husband's life as president.
1. Mitt Romney not running for president is a good move because he already ran for president and failed twice. Losing for the third time would place a bad title under his name. He should let other candidates to run and present new ideas instead of him presenting his.
2. Although Romney thinks he’ll win, I think its best for him to campaign and help a candidate, somewhat teaming up because he’s not successful running a campaign all by himself.
3. Randy Paul and Jeb Bush are the other republican leaders.
4. I want Jeb Bush because of somewhat a “legacy” based on opinion.
5. Clinton running is a great chance of winning because of the amount of republicans are quite more than democrats, making the republican party have more advantages.
